Csernus Winery

Csernus is located in the southern part of the Slovak region above the village of Vinica. The vines are planted on the foothills of Mt Straz, a defunct volcano. The estate is owned by father and son Karol and Karol Jnr Csernus, and their family have lived around Vinica for over 400 years. The mix of soils under Mt Straz are granite, volcanic rock, iron ore, tuff, limestone and sandstone, and in the vineyard yields are kept low to concentrate quality of the fruit. The result is a series of ripe, fruit-forward wines with minerality and freshness. The wines are also matured in used oak to soften and develop complexity.
