Balla Geza Winery, Romania

Founded in 1999, Dr Géza Balla’s namesake winery can be found on Minis Hill above the banks of the River Mureș just east of Arad in Romania.

Situated on a mix of granite, diorite and mudstone rich soils, the well positioned vines thrive in long sunshine hours moderated with cool evenings moderated by the Mureș. A trained chemist, Balla makes some of our favourite wines with a gorgeous balance between fruit, acidity and structure. The ‘Classic’ series of red wines come wrapped in beautiful presentation as Balla believes every wine is a gift. His sparkling wine, ‘Clarus’, is made from the very rare Mustoasa de Maderat grape in the traditional method style.
