Fresh Hungarian fizz full of apples, biscuit and spice.
St Donat Marga Sparkling Brut is a dry sparkling wine from Lake Balaton, Hungary. It's Furmint and Olaszrizling with 12.5% abv. Suitable for Vegans.
Only made in exceptional vintages, this pink sparkling was created by winemaker Tamas Kovacs in the traditional method style, like Champagne. This sparkling is made using early harvest Furmint and Olaszrizling grapes from Csopak, a sub region on the western shore of Lake Balaton. It is partly fermented in amphora and unfiltered before undergoing second fermentation in the bottle. Furmint gives strong character and fresh, bright apple notes while Olaszrizling adds spice. The final wine has a creamy mousse with lots of fruit over hints of biscuit from 18 months' lees ageing.
You'll like this if you like... Blanc de Blancs champagne, or Cremant de Loire.
Pairs beautifully with: Shellfish pasta, smoked trout, Thai noodles and chicken, or apple cinnamon tart.
Cheese pairing: Hard goat's cheese or Ossau-Iraty sheep's cheese.
