Kracher Pinot Gris 2016, Austria

Voluptuous orchard apples, peach and herby notes combine in this intensely satisfying white wine.

Austrian Wine

Dry white wine, 75cl. 100% Pinot Gris from Burgenland, Austria. 13.0% ABV. Suitable for Vegetarians.

Winemaker of the Year seven-times running, Alois Kracher, is probably one of the finest winemakers in the world. Despite being a specialist in sweet wines, Kracher's dry wine project has led to two marvellously satisfying wines: a Welschriesling and this Pinot Gris. From 2016, this wine is full and rich but intensely fruity. Green and red apples meet with white peach, honeydew melon and green herbs with hints of salt and fruit salad on the finish. It manages to juggle being full of character and divinely refreshing. As the Wine Advocate says, this is "easy drinking at the highest level".

Pairs beautifully with: Pan-seared sea bass, oven-roasted chicken with garlic and thyme, roasted vegetable platter, pork steak, hot and sour soup or fresh pea and mint risotto. Also great with pasta or veal in a creamy sauce.

Cheese pairing: Earthy, firm goat's cheese like Garrotxa or Mozzarella.
