What Wines To Pair With Soup

Looking to find the perfect wine to drink with soup, be it a hearty main or light starter? With such a range of different flavours and textures, we’ve put together a simple guide to help you get started.

Warming autumn vegetable soups, such as butternut squash or pumpkin with chilli will pair well with smooth reds or oaky white wines, complementing their spicy, silky texture.

Try drinking Riesling with a pea, mint and ham soup - it will bring out the sweetness from the ham whilst maintaining the clean palate that the mint brings.

French onion soup - this classic tasty comfort dish pairs great with whatever wine was used for cooking - we recommend a Viognier or similar wine - and why not serve up some glasses when the bottle is already open?

Dry rosé is a foolproof pairing for pho, whether meaty or vegetarian.

Be sure to check our recommendations for pairing wine with stews and casseroles too.
