Stefano Lubiana wines was set-up in 1990 by Steve Lubiana, who grew up on his family vineyard in the Riverland wine region of South Australia. After studying winemaking at Roseworthy College near Adelaide, Lubiana sought out cooler climate wine regions to grow grapes.
He discovered Tasmania on his honeymoon and spent a year looking around the island before moving just outside Hobart in 1990. Steve and his wife Monique started by selling their fruit to brands like Yalumba and Penfolds before embarking on their own wine-making venture. Today, Stefano Lubiana is Tasmania's first and only certified biodynamic wine estate.
Lubiana's most "pure" expression is his Pinot Noir, which is wildly fermented, low in sulphur and minimal intervention and fining.
