Chateau Oumsiyat

Fourth generation family winemaker Joseph Bou Sleiman's modern winery is located in the village of Mtein where he creates wines that are a fusion of the Old World and the New. His Chateau Oumsiyat estate presides over 78 hectares of vines, including a planting of Assyrtiko, situated over 1,000m above sea level in the Beqaa Valley in Lebanon. His vines sit in the valley between Mt Lebanon to the west and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains to the east. The area is characteristed by a summer diurnal temperature difference of 20C, encouraging a longer ripening period. Soils here are predominantly calcareous clay, a cool soil with good water retention - vital for nourishing the vines during the hot summers. Vines are cane pruned and cultivated with respect for the environment. Hand harvesting occurs only when the grapes reach optimal maturity.
