Artesana

Artesana are Uruguay's "Tannat specialists". For the last few years, Uruguayan wineries have adopted the Tannat French grape variety as their national grape and today produce some of the world's finest Tannat wines. Artesana are at the top of that game focusing on small-production, ultra premium wines that have gained critical acclaim in the UK and USA. All their Tannats are made with the highest quality, estate-grown fruit and aim to showcase Uruguay's distinctive terroir.

The 80-acre estate in Las Brujas is 30 miles north of Uruguay's seaside capital Montevideo in the warm, coastal region of Canelones. The vineyard is entirely hand-farmed and has been since the first vines were planted in 2007.

In the winery, the grapes are handled by award-winning winemakers Analia Lazaneo and Valentina Gatti. Lazaneo and Gatti aim to have minimum intervention in the winery, allowing the fruit to express the terroir where it was grown. The grapes are fermented separately by block in stainless steel tanks before being blended. Barrel ageing is often used in both French and American oak for 12-24 months before being bottled without fining or filtration and bottle-aged an additional time of up to a year.
