Ancre Hill Estate

Ancre Hill Estate is a premium quality Welsh vineyard established by Richard Morris in April 2006. Richard manages with vineyard with his wife Joy and four sons, including David Morris the current vineyard manager. The first plantings comprised mainly of Chardonnay, Albariño and Seyval Blanc, with a small planting of Triomphe and Pinot Noir. A second site, extending the space under vines by 4 acres, was planted in 2007 with Pinot Noir. Situated by the town of Monmouth in the Wye Valley, both the sites are south-facing with limestone soils.

Since 2011, Ancre Hill Estate has adopted biodynamic practices and is approved by DEMETER every year to ensure the strictest organic principles are adhered by. No insecticides or herbicides are used in the vineyard.

After their first vintage in 2008, Ancre Hill Estate has been recognised for numerous international awards including Decanter and International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) medals. In 2012 work began on an on-site winery, which was completed in 2015, and has been constructed entirely out of natural materials, with the walls constructed from straw bales and a living, green roof, providing temperature and humidity regulation.
