Are you a bit of a Grinch? Try Vinho Verde this year!

Dr Seuss’ avocado-green character just can’t get into the Christmas spirit. If you relate, maybe it is time to try something different this year.

The usual port or spicy red paired with a Christmas cheese board might put you in a bad mood, and you’d rather be in the sunshine on the beach somewhere warm.

If this is you we have two wonderful Portuguese wines for you! Vinho Verde is a traditional young wine whose name literally translates to ‘green wine’. These wines are characterised by fruity, floral and tropical aromas. They are usually straw-coloured with green undertones.

Broadbent Vinho Verde NV from Minho, Portugal (£12.99) is a spritzy white wine with a bright colour and a lemon-lime zing on the palate. Juicy watermelon notes and a relatively low alcohol percentage (9.0%) will transport you straight to a Mediterranean beach in August!

Reguengo de Melgaco Alvarinho Vinho Verde from Moncão, Portugal (£18.99) pairs beautifully with seafood. Intense tropical fruit and citrus lure you into the palate where you'll discover juicy apple, peach and pear fruit, finish with a crisp, lemon-like zing. Its aromas that will make you feel as if you were in the Atlantic coast of northern Portugal.

So if you're not feeling Christmas, export yourself to the sunshine with a bottle of delicious Vinho Verde.
